Team Competition

Congratulations to the UV Index team, which took home the New England Oyster Cup for the first time in 2023, eeking out last year’s winning team, Float Track Club!  We can’t wait to see these teams square off again in 2024. We also congratulate the New England 65-Plus Runner’s Club for winning both the Female Team Competition and the Men’s Team competition.  Click on each category or here for overall results (interested in all past results? Find them here!).

Team Registration

When you register online for the Great Bay 5K or Great Bay 55K Challenge, select the name of your team, or add a new team name if your team is not already on the list. If you forgot to register for a team online, please contact the race director at gb5k@greatbaystewards.org to add your name to a team.

New England Oyster Cup Competition
This is a special competition for mixed teams comprised of at least 3 men and 3 women participating in the 5K. Scoring will be based on chip time for the fastest 3 women and fastest 3 men on each team, and the team with the overall fastest time will win the coveted “New England Oyster Cup” trophy, plus bragging rights as the fastest mixed running team in New England! Each member of the six person winning team will also receive an individual award.

The winning team can celebrate their victory with a $250 cash award.

Team Captain
Each team with 10 or more members must have a designated captain. The first person who registers for a team is, by default, the team captain. If another registered runner should be listed as the Team Captain, please contact the Race Director at gb5k@greatbaystewards.org and provide the correct information.

Team captains must submit their team name or logos to the Race Director at gb5k@greatbaystewards.org no later than October 1. The logos must be high-resolution JPGs. Missing the deadline will mean your team’s race shirts will not have your team logo. Only the team name will be printed on the shirts.

If Team Members do not pick up their Team shirts during early packet pickup or on race day, all remaining Team shirts will be at the finish area where Team Captains or a designated Team member can pick up the remaining Team shirts.

Team Awards

Teams can qualify for the following awards:

  • Female and Male Team Awards: Pizza and beer party for 30 people
  • New England Oyster Cup (if a member of a mixed team with at least 3 men and 3 women): Special Oyster Cup trophy AND a $250 prize!
  • The team with the most members will win a $250 prize
  • Individual team members are also eligible to win individual runner awards!

Team Member Shirt and Bib Pickup

If your team is receiving custom race shirts, they are available for pickup on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 2pm – 6pm at the Barn at the Great Bay Discovery Center, 89 Depot Road, Greenland, NH. They will also be available on race day, Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 7am – 9am at Stratham Hill Park. Team shirts not picked up will be forwarded to the finish area where the Team captain or a designated Team member can pick up all remaining Team shirts.

Team Size
Your team can be as small or large as you want it to be. There are only minimum size requirements if you want to compete for awards.

To be entered automatically into the Female Team Competition and/or Male Team Competition, your team must have at least 5 women and/or 5 men racing in the 5K.

To be entered automatically into the New England Oyster Cup Competition, your team must have at least 3 woman AND 3 men participating in the 5K.

Great Bay 5K and Great Bay 55K Challenge teams of 10 or more participants will received customized shirts with either the team name or logo on the back. If you registered only for the Great Bay 55K Challenge, you will have to purchase a shirt. Please note, a team can be a combination of 5K and 55K Challenge participants, but only 5K participants are eligible for team competition awards.

NOTE: A team member is eligible to be a part of both the Team Competition and the New England Oyster Cup Competition, as well as all individual awards.

Female and Male Team Competitions

Each team must have at least 5 women and/or 5 men participating in the 5K to be eligible for this competition.

Scoring is based on points allocated for how each of the top 5 team members finish in their gender/age groups: A 1st place age group finisher earns 1 point; 2nd place earns 2 points, etc. The lowest total score wins.

No tie breakers. If more than one team has the same lowest score, teams will share the glory of being tied as winning teams.

Each winning team in each category will earn a complimentary pizza party for 30 people.

Pizza party locations will be announced at the Award Ceremony after the Great Bay 5K | Race for a Healthy Estuary is complete.
