Great Bay 55K Challenge
Run, walk, use your wheelchair or a treadmill to complete this circuit of Great Bay, New Hampshire’s largest estuary or use the course of your choice. On your way, you’ll reach special milestones, with information about the unique features at each location being sent to you by personalized emails.
You can start (and complete!) your Great Bay 55K Challenge anytime from October 1 – 25, 2025. Keep track of your miles and log them every day on the Great Bay 55K Leader Board. You’ll be able to see how far along the route you are each day, as well as how you are doing compared to other competitors.
Finished your Challenge early? Just keep going! The Leader Board will keep tracking you and show you how much more than the 55K you have gone. Prizes for the first male and female participants to complete any course and for the male and female who go the furthest distance!
Details on how to submit your miles coming soon!
Where is the Great Bay 55K Challenge?
The 4th annual Great Bay 55K Challenge will take place October 1 – 28, 2023. Although you can participate on any course you like, there is a suggested course that takes you around Great Bay Estuary. You can check out the course map for the complete route and turn-by-turn course instructions.
When and where can I pick up my Great Bay 55K Challenge packet?
Packet pick-up for all participants is as follows:
If you have registered by October 1, pickup for the race hat (and shirt, if you also registered for the 5K) and bib is on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 2pm – 6pm at the Barn at the Great Bay Discovery Center, 89 Depot Road, Greenland, NH.
Packet pickup is also available on Saturday, October 25 from 7am – 9am in Stratham Hill Park.
What is the Great Bay 55K course like?
If you choose to run the suggested course, it includes suburban/rural residential streets, and has great views of Great Bay. The streets will be open to traffic, so be mindful of the vehicles, and stay to the side of the road. The suggested course will not be monitored by volunteers or local police. Otherwise, choose your own 55K course, whether on the road or a treadmill.
The 55K Challenge can be completed in shorter increments of 1 mile or more per day over the race period or all at once. Be sure to keep track of your daily mileage and submit your details online (details to do this will be sent via email).
Refunds and Transfers
The Great Bay 55K Challenge does not give refunds or allow transfers of registration to a future year or another participant.
Custom Team Race Shirts
All 55K participants will receive a race shirt. Any team with 10 or more members OR that orders extra shirts to get to 10 shirts can have custom-made shirts with their team name or logo on the back – this can be a combination of 5K and 55K registrants.
Can I register for the Great Bay 55K Challenge in person?
Unfortunately, there is no in person registration for the Great Bay 55K Challenge. You can only register online.
What are the awards for the Great Bay 55K?
There will be awards to the male and female participant who completes the Great Bay 55K Challenge first! Each winner will receive a $50 gift card to one of the race beer sponsors.
There will also be awards for the male and female participant who completes the highest number of miles! Each winner will enjoy a $50 gift card to one of our beer sponsors.
Will there be beer and hard cider?
Yes! On October 25-26, take your bib (with tear-strip) to one of several great local craft breweries and cideries for a complimentary pour. One complimentary beer/cider if you are 21 and over at participating sponsors.
How do I submit my results online?
Your results will be compiled over the 30-day race period to see who wins awards!
Track mileage on any device using the app of your choice. For those participating in the 55K Challenge, be sure to continue to add in your time and distance even if you’ve already completed 55K. There are awards for the male and female participant who log the greatest number of miles and for those that complete the 55K first! And don’t forget, the 55K does not need to be completed in one day.
A link will be posted by October 1, 2022 to submit your race results online.
If you have a question that we didn’t answer, please contact the race director.
